Qld: Brisbane airport wants to cash in on Olympics

BRISBANE, April 17 AAP - The Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) wants to take advantage
of the congestion expected in Sydney during the Olympic Games to entice air freight operators
north.

BAC cargo marketing manager Ian Christie said airfreight business would be attracted
to Brisbane under a "Whiz thru Bris" initiative which would offer inducements for operators.

Mr Christie said it was anticipated that from August to October, Sydney Airport would
experience substantial congestion in the air, on the roads around the airport and in its
freight terminals.

He said Brisbane Airport had advantages which made it an attractive option.

"We experience zero congestion, operate 24 hours a day and our cargo terminals are
among the most modern in Australia," Mr Christie said today.

"I expect a number of companies will be seeking an alternative to overcome the expected
congestion at Sydney airport throughout the Olympics period."
